Sacramental Preparation
While you’ve been expecting your new child, we’ve been expecting you. You know already how wonderful it is to greet someone as special and as important as your child and we want to join you in welcoming your child to your parish and your Church. We want to help you pass on the great heritage of our Catholic Faith. Our parish Pre-Baptism program is presented every first Tuesday of the month (at 7:30 PM in the rectory) by a team composed of a priest and one of several dedicated couples. The hour-and-a-half-long session deals with the nature, history, and theology of the Sacrament of Baptism as well as exploring the dimensions of Christian parenting and Catholic family life. The time of your child’s Baptism is an opportunity to decide for them and for yourself, just how seriously you take your Catholic Faith. All first-time parents are required to register, (preferably before the birth of your child) for the Pre-Baptism program.(Call 544-8345).
Preparing for marriage is considerably different than arranging a wedding because we consider it to be a Sacrament. If you wish to receive the Sacrament of Matrimony at Sacred Heart Church, certain guidelines must be adhered to. First, the couple needs to alert the parish, no less than 6 months before, to set a date, which should be scheduled before any other arrangements, (such as a reception hall or caterers), are made. The diocesan requirement of immediate marriage preparation, either Pre-Cana or Engaged Encounter, is to be observed. The Catholic party (or parents) must be registered members of Sacred Heart parish. Persons living in towns other than Redding, Georgetown, Wilton, Ridgefield and Weston are encouraged to register in the parish in which they reside. Exceptions to this will be determined by the pastor. Weddings are not scheduled during Lent. If both parties are Catholic, the wedding rite within the Mass is the norm. In the case where one party is non-Catholic, the wedding rite within the Mass or just the wedding rite itself are options. Call 544-8345 for further information.

Are you interested in becoming a Roman Catholic but are not baptized? Are you already baptized and wish to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the normal way in which unbaptized adults and those seeking to join the Church are guided and supported by faith sharing and instruction with members of our RCIA process. Here at Sacred Heart, we begin in mid-October with an introductory session called “Come and See.” The process itself is held after Mass every Sunday and extends from several weeks before Christmas until Easter Sunday. Involvement in the RCIA does not oblige anyone to commit to conversion. It is a sincere invitation to explore and discover and share one’s faith. The Holy Spirit takes over from there. Interested?
